Black Bean Burgers are my new favorite food and are one the first things I look for on the menu at a restaurant! I’ve been wanting to try to make them at home and we did that this past weekend. Here’s the recipe I used.
Black Bean Burgers
1/2 medium onion, roughly chopped
2 cloves garlic
2 (15 oz) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 cup bread crumbs
In a food processor, pulse onion and garlic until finely minced. Add in one can of black beans, egg, salt, pepper, cumin, and coriander – pulse until well chopped. Add the second can of beans and pulse just a second or two (you still want some whole beans.
Scrape bean mixture into a bowl and stir in the bread crumbs. Form into patties and place on a plate. I was able to get 6 patties.
Grill on medium heat for 6 minutes on each side.
My husband does the grilling at our house, and he grilled the burgers on top of greased foil. Turns out that was a great idea, because the burgers kinda fell apart.
We topped ours with avocado, tomato, red onion, and spicy mayo. They were delicious! I will definitely have to do some playing around with the recipe, maybe research some other recipes and find out why ours fell apart. The texture was very soft and creamy from the beans, but they just seemed to crumble.
I would appreciate any thoughts you have to help avoid this next time. 🙂
