Homemade French Onion Soup Mix

In our quest to eat healthy, there are so many things that I don’t plan on purchasing anymore. French Onion Soup mix is one of those things. I love the flavor it adds to so many dishes. We often add it to our rice or quinoa for a different flavor. It is also great on roasted potatoes. This mix is so easy to make, and I generally have all the ingredients on hand, at least for an individual batch. I do like to make it in bulk so it is always ready to throw into a recipe.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need.

Homemade French Onion Soup Mix (single use)

4 teaspoons beef bullion powder (I use Orrington Farms beef flavored Broth Base and Seasoning because it is both dairy-free and gluten-free and there is also no MSG added.)

8 teaspoons dried minced onion

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Combine the above ingredients and add use just like you would to season with dry French onion soup mix.

Homemade French Onion Soup Mix (bulk)

3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons Beef Bullion Powder

1 3/4 cup Dried Minced Onion

4 Tablespoons Onion Powder

2 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper

Combine the above ingredients and store in an airtight container. Use 2-3 Tablespoons to season. Makes approximately 10 “servings”.  As with all seasoning, it is best when used within 6 months.
